Stitch Fix Review

I’m sure many of you have already heard about Stitch Fix, but for those of you who haven’t, it is basically a clothing subscription service where for $20.00 you schedule a “fix” where a personal stylist will pick out 5 pieces of clothing, shoes, or accessories and mail them to you. You have 3 days to choose any items you want to keep, and you send the rest back in a prepaid mailer. The $20 “styling fee” goes towards any items you choose to keep, and if you purchase all 5 items, you get 25% off the entire order. If you don’t keep anything, you lose your $20 – so it’s usually worth it to keep at least one item!

This may not be for everyone, but I like it because it is an easy and fun way to try on and shop for clothes without ever having to leave your house! I also like that I’m not overwhelmed with too many options. Getting a box full of goodies in the mail is always fun too – so that is an added bonus for me.

Believe it or not, I’ve gotten a Stitch Fix 10 times over the past 2-3 years. So I decided for this most recent fix, why not do a little overview/review?!

In order for your stylist to know what kinds of items to send you, you have to fill out a “style profile” online where you select types of clothing, colors, textures, etc. that you like. They challenge you to try a little something different than you’re used to – but you certainly don’t have to. You also have an opportunity to select the price range of items you prefer – I, of course, chose the cheapest option available because money doesn’t grow on trees around here haha!

I will be upfront that if you are used to paying super bargain prices on clothes, then you probably won’t like the prices you see in a fix. However, I’ve learned that sometimes it is worth paying a little more for better quality clothing. I’ve purchased several cheapo jeans before from cheap stores (think H&M or Papaya) that I don’t even like wearing anymore because they’re all washed out and faded and just don’t look good anymore. I guess now that I’m 30, I’m thinking differently about how I shop and what I purchase. I’m trying to only make clothing purchases on items that I really love and bring me joy, and not just because they are a “good deal”. I find that a lot of times those bargain items don’t even get worn or only get worn once. I’d rather have my closet filled with just a handful of items that are of good quality that I really love and enjoy wearing, instead of a ton of clothes that are just “meh” or falling apart after the first couple wears.

So, without further ado – here are the items in my most recent fix. *The prices listed by each item are before any discounts/credits (if you have any) are applied.

1. Toms Shoes – $48

The first item was a pair of Olive green Toms Shoes. (I had asked that a pair of shoes be included in this fix.) I have had Toms shoes in the past and loved them! I had to recently get rid of my favorite pair because they were pretty rough, I had literally worn them to death. This color was perfect for fall – especially here in Florida since we don’t exactly have boot weather. ha! I can wear these without socks and with pretty much any pair of jeans or shorts. They were a little tight to get on at first, but I know that this is common with all Toms shoes and they will definitely stretch out once I wear them a few times. The other plus is that a pair of shoes goes to a child in need, so these were definitely a win!

2. Burgundy Top – $38

The next item was this really cute three quarter sleeve top. (I asked for a couple tops to be included in this fix.) I loved the burgundy color – again, perfect for fall! The front of the shirt is a very nice, soft, lightweight knit fabric and the back is a completely different material that is flow-y with a cute pattern! This is perfect for Sunday mornings as I often help lead worship for our church. The fit was very comfortable as well. I like my clothes to be a bit on the loose side – I just feel more comfortable that way! So this was a keeper.

3. Striped Top – $58

The third item was another three quarter sleeve striped top. I love stripes! The thing that made this top unique is that there was a camisole included underneath, the material of the white stripe is almost like a lacy fabric, and the back has this really cute criss cross open back detail – but still very modest. I really liked this one too and again, it is perfect for Sunday mornings! Another keeper.

4. Black Jeans – $88

The fourth item was this pair of black, edgy looking pair of skinny jeans with an adorable fringe around the ankles. I LOVE these jeans – the fit is awesome. I especially love how they hug my ankles. Remember those cheapo jeans I mentioned at the beginning of this post? Those aren’t as tight around the ankles so they look funny when I wear ankle boots with them. I couldn’t pass these up as I know I will wear them a ton.

5. Maroon pants – $98

Last was this pair of maroon colored skinny pants. These are almost like a jean material – but not denim. They are very sturdy but have some stretch to them. I had also requested a couple pair of pants in this fix. (My stylist is awesome and pays close attention to my requests!) Again, the fit was perfect and I like the color a lot. I checked my closet to make sure I had enough tops that I can wear with these since they aren’t a neutral or pair of jeans. I think I will be able to wear these often. I like the pop of color that they bring to an outfit. So, I decided to keep these too. (Sorry, it’s a little hard to see the color in the photos – also, this white shirt is from a previous fix!).

I have NEVER kept everything in a fix before until this one – but mostly because I usually don’t have the money to spend on everything. There have been many fixes where I wanted everything, but couldn’t keep it all. There have been a few items that either weren’t my style or didn’t fit right, but for the most part my stylist usually does an awesome job and she makes it really hard for me to send things back! I can usually only keep one or two items. The key for me keeping everything this time was that I had a giftcard of $50 (I often ask for Stitchfix giftcards for birthdays/Christmas), plus the 25% off on all 5 items. My total ended up being $197.50.

Now, like I said, that may be way too much for some people, but I felt like the items in this fix were of good quality and I have been needing a couple pair of good pants. If you divide the total by 5, that makes each item $39.50 – which isn’t bad, especially for a good pair of pants! And I now have some great pieces in my closet that I didn’t even have to leave the house to find!
